Gross Motor/Fine Motor - Egg Race and Egg Toss

March was hot, well hot for March at least, so when I planned my egg activities I wanted to use real eggs outside.  However, Mother Nature decided to throw me a few curve balls and I just couldn't bring myself to use real eggs inside.  I am learning to tolerate messes, but that was out of my comfort zone.  Also ignore the clothing...my children picked their outfits out alone.

Walk the line.

She might do better with her eyes open.  We used hard boiled eggs from Easter.

Math

Find the correct sum for each equation.

Match the equation in pictures to the equation with numbers.  I want Mister and Ladybug to be able to represent equations in more than one way.  Unfortunately this didn't last too long since the Wee One removed all the stickers.

Literacy - We did a lot of reading in our sight word readers, brainstormed the -EN family, and read Little Red Hen, Where Do Chickens Come From?, and many other books.

Life on a Chicken Farm

Windy Days

Last Sunday it was really windy and we had the opportunity to fly kites kicking off our windy week.  Many of the activities stayed the same, but I included some shapes, art, and science.

Fine Motor - I taped together a piece of paper and had Mister and Ladybug cut along the lines to make a windsock.  They punched a hole in the top and we put string through so we could attach it to our tree.

Sensory - How do these triangles fit? 

Mister and Ladybug had a diamond kite and they had to put on four triangles to decorate their kite. 

Science - We talked a lot about tornadoes, hurricanes, and how wind moves. 

Cotton ball races - Mister and Ladybug found they couldn't go on top of the cotton ball to make it move.


Art - Paper bag windsocks - Mister and Ladybug created a weather scene using dot markers and added streamers to blow in the wind.

Movement - We created wind with our bodies and made the scarves move in the wind.

Ball Walk

It's funny how toddlers are content for a long time making piles and moving their piles. Something so simple can be the best entertainment.  This idea came from the Wee One when she was carrying a ball around in a shovel at my parent's house and her love of piles.

I put out two bins across the room. from each other.  One of the bins was full of different kinds of balls that ranged from golf ball size to toddler soccer ball size and a shovel.  The other bin was empty.  When the Wee One saw the bin full of balls she squealed and knew exactly what to do.  She put a ball on her shovel and carefully walked to the empty bin. 

Oh the excitement of a bin full of balls!

Some of the balls fit into the shovel so she could run to the other bin, while other balls fit on top and she had to walk slowly and carefully to the bin.

Yes, I Can!

Mister and Ladybug are working their way through the pre prime sight words and I put together a sight word and gross motor activity for us. 

I had Mister and Ladybug meet me on the floor and I showed them the words "I" and "can."  They knew the word I, and we sounded out can.  Ladybug realized that can was also in our new word family.  I put down each of the cards and we made sentences with each.  Together we read, "I can jump (run, play, go)."  Mister and Ladybug each had an opportunity to pick a card and make a sentence.

Then, we went into the kitchen and played the "Yes, I can!" game. 

We reviewed the sight words before we played our game.

Mister and Ladybug took turns picking a sight word card.



We read the sentence together pointing to each word.



Mister and Ladybug completed the sentence by doing the action.
